ONGC Mangalore and Petrochemicals Ltd. has selected UOP to supply technology, basic engineering services and equipment for a new aromatics complex to be installed in Mangalore, India. A range of UOP technologies will be used for the production of high purity aromatics including the UOP CCR Platforming(TM) Process, the UOP Isomar(TM) Process, the UOP Parex(TM) Process, the UOP Tatoray(TM) Process and the Shell Sulfolane(TM) Process. The new petrochemical complex is planned to produce 900,000 metric tpa paraxylene and 275,000 tpa benzene, utilizing naphtha along with aromatic-rich stream from the existing refinery as the feedstock. The aromatics complex will be integrated with an existing Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. refinery complex located in the Mangalore Special Economic Zone and will use the naphtha and aromatic-rich stream from the refinery as feedstock to produce aromatics. The plant, south India's largest, is scheduled to be completed in 2010. ONGC Mangalore Petrochemical Corp. is promoted by the Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC), the largest crude oil and natural gas producer in India, and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd., operator of a state-of-the-art refinery that processes 12.5 million tons of crude oil per year to produce naphtha, petrol, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), diesel, fuel oil and bitumen.
