Borealis to debut random copolymer for medical film industry at Milan

Borealis is set to debut its new cast film grade from the Bormed™ polypropylene (PP) family at Plast'09 (Milan) that it says offers best-in-class transparency for medical packaging applications. Bormed RE806CF, the new medium ethylene random copolymer, is said to produce cast films with an optimal balance of superior optical properties even post steam sterilization in addition to offering high purity and good sealability. RE806CF is produced under strict conditions to guarantee consistent, high quality and compliance with international norms for the medical and pharmaceutical markets. For film converters, Borstar technology allows the PP grade to be tailored to provide excellent processability without compromising on superior product quality. The new PP grade is produced at company's new hi-tech PP unit in Burghausen, Germany, Bormed RE806CF is based on Borealis' proprietary Borstar® -Sirius catalyst technology and is without slip or antiblocking agents. The company claims that the Bormed RE806CF allows cast films differentiated by outstanding purity due to to low volatiles and extractables, very high gloss and low haze to be achieved. It provides good thermal stability with a melting point of 143°C. Its high transparency is retained during and after steam sterilisation processes. The grade is said to perfectly suited for use in applications where transparency and sterilisation resistance are key requirements, such as pharmaceutical, diagnostic and medical device packaging.
