Total Petrochemicals to permanently shut a 200 mln lbs polystyrene unit at Carville

Total Petrochemicals USA Inc. plans to permanently shut down a 200 mln lbs pa polystyrene unit at its Carville, La. styrenics site, as per PlasticsNews. The polystyrene unit has been idle since H2-2010, because the balance of supply and demand in North American polystyrene has shifted over the last decade, making the unit no longer viable in the current market conditions. The company plans to improve the efficiency of its other PS units with a nameplate capacity of 1.45 bln lbs annually.
