Low-emissions PU solution for automotives provides for ease in processing (27-11-2008)

Dow Automotive has unveiled a low-emissions polyurethane solution under the name VORANOL™ VORACTIV™ VM 779 to provide improved air quality in passenger compartment. As per the company, VORANOL VORACTIVE polyols can be employed for sound dampening application in parts including passenger compartment, engine compartment, trunk compartment and cavity insulation. This solution is well positioned to support Tier One suppliers and to meet OEM requirements for emissions and productivity.

The new low-emission polyurethane solutions offer optimized processing features that benefit both the manufacturing techniques and environments. These are manufactured using Dow's proprietary process that grafts the catalytic activity to a polyol which enable the reduction of the amine catalysts package, thereby achieving lower costs of manufacturing and a significant decrease in the fogging, PVC staining and PC degradation associated with conventional polyurethane foam. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are also reduced, which provides benefits throughout the automotive manufacturing and ownership lifecycle.

As far as processing benefits are concerned, the company asserts that VORANOL VORACTIV VM 779 exhibit excellent foam flowability for designing complex parts, improved compression-set properties, greater resistance to humid conditions, 50% reduction in amine emissions and an option of faster demolding.
