L&T-Demag Plastics Machinery Limited is a Joint Venture company between Larsen & Toubro Limited, one of India's largest engineering conglomerates and Demag Plastics Group Europe's leading maker of Injection Molding Machines.
L&T started manufacturing injection molding machines way back in 1990 with the introduction of the "D series" of advanced Injection Molding Machines in association with Mannesmann Demag Kunstofftechnik (MDKT), the erstwhile Demag Plastics Group. The association with Demag Plastics Group, matured to a 50:50 Joint venture in 2002 and the joint venture company, L&T-Demag plastics machinery Limited, soon emerged as a formidable Injection Molding Solutions provider in India.
L&T-Demag apparently became the market leader and the most preferred supplier for hundreds of customers in India and abroad. This continuous patronage from customers encouraged
L&T-Demag to create a new facility near Chennai in the year 2005 with an enhanced capacity for manufacturing Injection Molding Machines of different technologies.
This new factory, which houses some of the most advanced facilities for design and research in control systems, hydraulics and mechanical construction, can currently produce up to a thousand machines every year in clamping forces from 400kN to 10750 KN.

Detech
Detech is the entry level closed loop machine offering the best value for money. The Detech machines have a computer optimised 5-Point Twin toggle clamping mechanism that offers good kinematics and secure the molds while clamping. The Injection units have a modular selection to enable you opt for the right machine for your molding requirement. The LNC5 control is best suited for Indian conditions and offers the molders with an assorment of options and features that make your molding a pleasure.
Detech machines are best suited for entry level moldings and mass productions with reduced cycle time requirements and for those operations that require returns in a short time. Detech machines comes in a variety of sizes ranging from 40T to 650T and shotweights from as low as 21 gms to 6.5 kgs
Aswa
Aswa offers excellent performance with its low cycle times and high quality of the molded components. Aswa is enabled with an electronically controlled closed loop variable displacement pump which controls the hydrauilic pressure and flow directly within the pump. Wide platen areas in Aswa enable larger molds to be loaded in the machines, this along with the availability of T slot platens in higher tonnage machines offers the customer the best fit of the clamping system.
The computer optimised and controlled 5-point twin toggle clamping systems offers fast mold open-close movements and excellent safety for your costly molds. This along with proportional valve based consistent control of the open stop positions makes part handling robots operation very simple. Aswa machines are fitted with LNC5 and Ergocontrols as an option that offers the flexibility of high transparency & very precise control of the molding parameters. The Injection units offer a wide variety of choices in size & screw selection for different molding needs of shotweight and pressure.
Aswa machines are available in sizes ranging from 40T to 1000T.
The clamp: strong & swift
L&T-Demag offers the proven 5-Point twin toggle clamping system. 5-Point twin toggle system, known for its quick mold open and close movements coupled with its good mold safety characteristics is one of the most preferred clamping mechanisms in the world.
Its secure locking performance (without additional energy consumption), additional reserve locking force, short locking times and high mould breaking forces are ideal for all applications. The fast, balanced toggle movement is complimented by computer optimized end-positioning as well as pre-determined deceleration and acceleration profiles, all of which helps you to protect your molds and reduce cycle times.
Integrated roller bearing support provided on the moving platen take the weight of the moving mould half in order to minimize the tilting moment, reduce load on tiebars, and eliminate potential problems while running heavier moulds.
The sun & planetary gear system assisting the mould height adjustment mechanism with a motorized drive ensures that the there is no backlash during operation and provides for uniform transmission of forces to all the four tiebars during operation.
In certain models of machines easy tie bar retraction facilities can be provided to facilitate mould installations with lengthy protruding side cores.
The automatic lubrication system with electrical monitoring ensures that there is minimal maintenance downtime during operation and provides an additional safeguard while running the machines.
The drive system: powerful & energy efficient
The hydraulic heart of L&T-Demag Aswa & Ergotech machines is the electronically controlled closed loop variable displacement pump. The DFE pump provides for extremely fast and precise dynamic flow & pressure control.
The DFE pump renders lowest power consumption compared to similar kind of mechanisms using simple variable/fixed pump, this is because the pump supplies pressure and flow always according to the actual requirement
A second variable pump is offered for simultaneous ejector and core movements to reduce the cycle time. This system can be offered as optional in Aswa as well as Ergotech machines
The injection unit: modular and flexible
The modular design of injection units in L&T-Demag machines offers a wide variety in selecting the right combination of screw & barrel to meet your needs. This is necessary because the plasticizing and injection stages are important and it is a direct measure of the part quality.
Every clamping unit can be accompanied with either of the different available injection units and every injection unit can provide with three or four different screws to match your requirement of shot size and injection pressure. The plasticizing drive can be of a high speed or a medium speed version and is chosen to suite the requirement of the polymer being processed.
For optimized plasticizing conditions a screw L/D ratio of 20 is provided and in certain cases L/D ratio of 25 can also be offered considering the required plasticizing capacity at low cycle times. Screws with barrier and mixing zones can be provided to cater to your varying needs.
Special plasticizing units for PET, R-PVC, C-PVC and Thermoset can also be offered with varying designs to meet the processing requirement characteristic of individual polymers.
"Closed Loop Injection" addresses the stringent requirement like the precision and dynamics during the injection stage; this can be offered optionally with fast acting servo valves.
The control unit: Precise & friendly
L&T-Demag offers a choice of two different control systems in the machines depending on the application and user needs, the imported Ergocontrol from Demag and the indigenously developed LNC5

Ergocontrole
Ergocontrol is based on the modular NC4 platform of Demag and addresses all the needs of the technical precision molding and fast cycling machines. The control panel is clearly arranged with hot keys for quick access and icons that permit easier setting of machines. Shuttle wheel provided in the user panel permits easier navigation of control pages. Set points are entered in percentage of maximum and or in physical
values and a clear indication of actual 'vs' set values are made available.
A host of features are provided in the control to permit a clear & transparent understanding of the processing parameters and this data can also be downloaded and stored in a PC for future reference and auditing. Flexible programming can enabled operate core/pneumatic attachments and to sequence different input and output operations of the machine.

Injection, dosing and hold on profiles enable easy monitoring and control of the injection parameters.







Process Data Acquisition

Two components – one user interface

Ergocontrol provides a second keypad for the second injection unit, which is used during two-component injection moulding processes. Special equipment such as a rotary table for transferring parts during multi-component injection moulding can also be programmed on the same interface.


Chip card provides extra security
Ergocontrol's integrated chip card reader provides you with an additional security level which allows users to release or inhibit certain control system function groups in order to authorise only selected operators to change machine settings for the purpose of process optimisation.

Safe monitoring of complex processes
In short: The combination of the Ergocontrol menus "Machine operation" and "Mould operation" provides a clear display of information and allows safe programming as well as documenting of straightforward as well as complex injection moulding processes.

Documentation, printing and data storage
Ergocontrol is the ideally equipped for all documentation tasks. The integrated thermal printer can be used to print out selected statistical process parameters or complete screens according to time or number of shots. The disk drive allows you to save your mould set-up and handling data as well as the complete machine set-up data. This benefit saves time and money, particularly for processes which require frequent product changes. Naturally, you can also save important process parameters to disk or transmit them to a master PC.
LNC5 is an indigenously developed controller which meets the specific needs of the Indian moulder. LNC5 is derived out of the modular concept as in NC4 and. is offered as standard with the De tech and Aswa machines.
Networking, remote access & control assisted management information system (MIS) can be provided with LNC5 control system and all these can be custom developed to meet your needs.
Optional Hindi version of the display pages and the alarm help menu further simplifies operation and personalizes the operator interface.
