Photo / thermally degradable / compostible additive Masterbatches We offer biodegradable additive masterbatches particularly suitable for polyethylene resin processors producing blown or cast film and for PP TQ film, cast film and oriented film producers.
Definition of Degradation - According to ISO 472:1988, degradation is defined as a change in the chemical structure of a plastic involving a deleterious change in properties - physical and mechanical. Deterioration is defined as a permanent change in the physical properties of a plastic evidenced by impairment of these properties. A degradable plastic is a plastic designed to undergo significant change in its chemical structure under specific environmental conditions resulting in loss of some properties that may vary as measured by standard test methods appropriate to the plastic and the application in a period of time that determines its classification.
Mechanism Photo degradation - The plastic is made to become more sensitive to the sun's UV rays with prodegradants. It contains trace quantities of activated non-toxic elements which create free radicals which randomly attack the polymer chain. These free radicals sever molecular bonds of the plastic and allow bacteria to consume the plastic.
