A joint partnership between Switzerland's Pyramid Technologies and Germany's German Bioplastics under the name 'Pyramid Bioplastics' will initiate a production facility for PLA having capacity of 60,000 tpa. The plant will be based on technology provided by Uhde Inventa-Fischer. A first production unit, for which the plant engineering is in progress, will commence operations in the H2 of 2009. The PLA production plant will be located at Guben, a city on the German-Polish border in eastern Brandenburg. Further, Pyramid Bioplastics will undertake research and development in cooperation with Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Polymer Research.
