BaySystems™, the umbrella brand for the global polyurethane systems operations of Bayer MaterialScience, has won Energy Star partnership for its Bayseal™ CC and PP grades of energy-efficient spray polyurethane foam insulation. Bayseal™ foam is sprayed onto both the inside and perimeter walls of a home in lieu of traditional fiberglass insulation to create a more efficient thermal envelope. The foam quickly expands, filling open spaces to provide a continuous, protective air barrier that virtually eliminates air leakage, the leading cause of building energy waste. Bayseal™ foam cures within seconds, forming the foundation of a structurally strong, virtually airtight, thermal, sound and condensation barrier.
Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) designed to help consumers save money and protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices. Energy Star partners must meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and DOE, including following the Federal Trade Commission's rules for reporting aged resistance to heat flow, or "R-value." R-values determine the degree to which an insulation product is resistant to heat, air leakage and moisture transmission. Bayseal™ closed-cell (CC) is dense, rigid spray foam insulation with an aged R-value of 6.9 per inch. Bayseal™ Polar Pro (PP) has the same resistance properties as Bayseal™ CC, but is a cold-cure formulation that can be sprayed on colder walls in temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
