“Compounding with Twin Screw Extruders - Theory and Practice"
This presentation outlines the underlying theory of Twin Screw extruders and offers interesting tips and tricks for successful
compounding of polymers.
Basic concepts of Dispersive and Distributive mixing are highlighted since they are so important to understand for designing a good
compounding system. This is followed by the concept of Torque and it's importance in proper extruder control. Extruder design aspects
like Free Volume Ratio and Specific Torque are explained with diagrams. Some important advances in materials of construction
are shown.
In the "Tips & Tricks" section, emphasis is placed on the fact that Torque is the key control parameter for efficient operation. Some
effects of Torque are discussed. This is followed by general processing tips and the importance of feed and vacuum control. A section
on principles of Screw Design is included which is followed by some practical illustrations of process optimization.
The last section deals with recent trends in extruder design and ends with an illustration of integrated process control.

"Oxo-Biodegradable Plastics for Carry Bags"
Plastics have become one of the integral ingredient in today's mankind. One of the major use of Plastics is in Packaging. They are
found to be useful material as compared with the contemporary materials such as paper and glass. Polyethylene is widely used plastics
for packaging. However, increase in use of Plastics have created an environmental issues due to their non-degradable properties.
Consultancy Therefore, converting plastics into degradable material will be one of the important issue.
One of the method to degrade plastic is by oxo-biodegradation, where Polyethylene degrades by oxidise process with the help of an
Additive present in the plastic. This presentation mainly highlights the oxo-degradation methodology for plastics and alternate
technologies for Bio-degradation.
