Pune has been chosen as the venue for this conference since it is one of the fastest growing cities in India Pune is the major Hub for Automotive, Appliances and IT industry in India.
Apart from Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Kinetic Engineering and Mercedes, Pune has also attracted G.M.and Volkswagon to set up their plants in this region. Tata-Fiat joint production facilities are located in Ranjangaon near Pune. Satellite cities of Nashik and Aurangabad are located near Pune where companies like Mahindra and Mahindra, Videocon and several other large plastics consuming industries operate. In the Appliances industry Whirlpool and LG have their manufacturing plants near Pune. Pune has also some of the best tool making facilities in India.
The state government has developed an Auto Tech centre viz. Auto Cluster specifically catering to the needs of automotive and component industries. Pune is a major outsourcing centre in India for auto parts and components and major global purchasers have their offices in and around Pune.
It is estimated that over 5,000 tonnes of engineering plastic and specialty compounds are consumed annually by various plastic processors in and around Pune and this figure is growing rapidly. Pune has also become an attraction for many design and engineering houses to set up their design studios and provide engineering services to this rapidly growing segment of the Indian economy.
