Socketing of PVC pipes is being done in India for a long time now. Most of the socketing methods are almost manual. The output achieved in these methods is considerably low. The socket also may not be uniform, i.e. nonconcentric, resulting in wastage. We have Developed & introduced the semi-automatic Belling Machine, for PVC pipe od's ranging from 32mm to 200mm. Two types of socketing is possible on this machine: (a) Smooth socket (b) Shaped ('O' ring) socket. Depending upon the operator's skill & pipe thickness, as high as 115 sockets/hour are possible. The machine has two working stations: Heating station & forming station. |

Heating station: It consists of heating oven, wherein the heat is emitted by radiation. The pipe starts rotating to enable uniform heating of pipe end. As soon as required plasticizing temperature is reached, the hooter sounds and the pipe gets declamped. The pipe is then withdrawn and placed on the forming station. Forming station: On this station the pipe is clamped and the forming mandrel with water circulation form socket. At the present time water circulation stops, the forming mandrel retracts and the pipe gets declamped. The hooter sounds, giving a signal to the operator. During this time, the heat cycle of the next pipe is completed. Thus, this cycle of next form is almost continuous. The machine operations are controlled by PLC controls.
