Japanese ethylene production witnessed an 8.2% fall from 509,700 tons in June 2010 as compared to 555,500 tons in June 2009, as per Reuters. Production was impacted by a larger number of maintenance shutdowns this year- 4 four maintenance-related plant shutdowns vs three shutdowns seen last year. As compared to May output at 560,900 tons, June output had fallen 9.1%.
The export volume of ethylene fell 40.1% to 163,700 tons in May 2010 vs May 2009.
