Despite a 4-5 month delay, the Assam Gas Cracker Project is unlikely to suffer time overruns as the company strives to complete the Rs 5,460-crore project as per schedule, within 60 months.
The project was estimated to suffer a delay of over six months on account of several factors including delay in appointment of key officials of the Brahmaputra Polymers and Crackers Limited (BPCL). BCPL was incorporated in January 2007, to execute the gas cracker project, a joint venture project, led by GAIL. It will manufacture 2,20,000 tpa of ethylene, 60,000 tons of polypropylene, polyethylene (HDPE and LLDPE) besides 60,000 tons of polypropylene.
GAIL has approved an investment of Rs. 8,000 crore for setting up of new pipelines and augmenting capacity of an existing pipeline.
The project will be executed in two phases. A capital expenditure of Rs 5,732.50 crore and Rs 919.72 crore would be incurred on Part-IA and Part-IB, respectively.
