DuPont's two engineering resins have been used in new automotive lamp socket wire harness designs that are components of auto lighting systems adopted by several North American automakers. These headlamp technologies, which demand high temperature resistance and durability, are already predominant in European and Japanese vehicles. Empire Electronics, a leading systems supplier for these T20 sockets known for providing the same power output as conventional sockets with a smaller carbon footprint, have employed DuPont™ Zytel® HTN. In addition, the new in-line connectors for these headlamp systems are made of DuPont™ Crastin® PBT thermoplastic polyester resin due to their hydrolysis resistance and dimensional stability. According to key people associated with Empire, Zytel® HTN lets them meet stringent temperature requirements and in-line connectors made with Crastin® comply with strict United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) standards.
