In Turkey’s PE market, an increasing number of players has been reporting tightness on prompt HDPE availability, as per ChemOrbis. Distributors, who didn’t stock up in previous months due to slow demand and bearish price trends, report that they have limited HDPE availability especially for film grade. Some local resellers noted the absolute lack of HDPE stocks, as they have failed to replace their stocks in the absence of their regular import suppliers this week. “We have limited HDPE film in our stocks and we don’t have material on the way. We are willing to accept any offers for import HDPE film since there are no offers for now,” a distributor commented. “We currently don’t have any HDPE film in our stocks. Producers are not giving any offers these days,” another distributor complained. Although the overall demand is not considered to be healthy, players who are looking for material in the local market report low supplies, with much of the buying interest coming from distributors. “We are receiving lots of price inquiries for HDPE film from other distributors,” a distributor reported.
Despite the bearish PE trend, local resellers are apparently taking advantage of dwindling HDPE supplies on their local pricing for now, with some distributors raising their prices amidst the absence of import supply sources, which caused the local HDPE film prices on ex-warehouse Turkey basis to rise by US$10-30/ton week over week. A distributor, who offers HDPE which is on the way and promptly available materials, said that his prices for prompt materials are higher since HDPE film supply is limited in the local market.
