Keltic Petrochemicals receives govt nod to proceed with US$4.5 bln project in Goldboro

25-Mar-08
Federal Government approval has been granted, after an extensive review, to Keltic Petrochemicals Inc. to proceed with its US$4.5 bln petrochemical project in Goldboro, N.S. The project is a strategic partnership with LyondellBasell Industries, and will consist of ethylene, polyethylene, propylene and polypropylene plants in addition to a supporting cogeneration plant. The approval is conditional and requires the company to submit further documents for review by regulatory agencies, including an environmental protection plan, a site security plan, a marine simulation exercise and a marine terminal, and an emergency evacuation plan. To ensure that the facility will be constructed and operated in an environmental sound manner, conditions have been placed on the federal approval, along with conditions placed on approval at the provincial level.
