KraussMaffei, the leading manufacturer of plastics processing machines, supplied a KM 420-1900/700 C W SpinForm injection moulding machine to Germany-based two component injection molder, Veeser Plastic-Werk GmbH & Co. KG in 2007, which experienced benefits of the machine's swivel-platen technology. "The number of cavities can be almost doubled compared to rotary table applications, for the same clamping force," points out Andreas Handschke, the responsible technology manager at KraussMaffei. Veeser Plastic-Werk has developed over 200 multicomponent solutions for industries such as automotive, domestic appliances, medicines and pharmaceuticals, but also for use in gardening equipment and promotional products.
According to the company, the SpinForm machines have 6.5-times greater coolant flow rate which optimizes temperature control and reduce cycle times. On the machine operated by Veeser Plastic-Werk, the swivel unit of the 6+6-cavity mould, with its needle-valve hot-runner system, is supplied by 24 cooling circuits. This was one of the decisive factors in the company's choice of a swivel-platen machine. The part being produced is a housing component for a dishwasher pump. The housing cover is made of PP with an overmoulded TPE soft component for acoustic decoupling of the pump that is subsequently mounted. "Both materials were specially developed for this application," comments Michael Veeser, managing partner of Veeser Plastic-Werk GmbH & Co. KG.
