Refinery carriage capacity to be doubled at Bhatinda making it Asia's biggest petrochemical hub

HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) plans to double carriage capacity to 18,000 tons of the Sri Guru Gobind Singh oil refinery's Gujarat-Bathinda pipeline, making it the biggest petrochemical hub in Asia. HMEL is a joint venture between the state-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corp and Mittal Energy Investment of Singapore. Rs.18,900 crore is being invested as initial outlay for the refinery, along with an additional Rs.5,000 crore on the Gujarat-Bathinda pipeline and another Rs.1,000 crore on an offshore port for importing crude oil from Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
