Weak market conditions through last year that have deteriorated further as global economy sinks into recession, has forced NOVA Chemicals to mull a temporary shutdown of its styrenic unit at Beaver Valley site in Monaca, Pennsylvania. Current market conditions will make it impossible for the company to restart the plant, and only a significant rise in demand and improving margins will serve as a catalyst for the restart. Production from the Beaver Valley site includes expandable polystyrene, ARCEL(R) and DYLARK(R) resins.
