BASF announces force majeure for ethylene fom Ludwigshafen

A defective compressor in the larger of two crackers at the Ludwigshafen site has aused BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany) to declare force majeure for ethylene (C2) from Ludwigshafen on 2 July 2007. Deliveries to European customers are likely to be reduced by around 8.5% over a 12-day period. BASF has released no details on how the outage might impact polymer supplies. Total capacity at the two crackers is 620,000 tpa
