As demand continues to deteriorate amid a global economic meltdown, Lanxess plans temporary production cuts and shutdowns at 23 of its 45 sites in Germany over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. This decision has been reached after an agreement with employee representatives that followed intensive negotiations on uniform arrangements. Almost 1,400 employees will be directly affected when the shutdown comes into force at Leverkusen, Dormagen, Krefeld-Uerdingen and Brunsbuettel sites. Where plants are being shut down, the workers would reduce positive balances on their time accounts or use part of their annual vacation. Where these options are already exhausted, workers will need to debit hours from their individual time accounts and then work extra hours at a later time, the company said in its statement.
