New metallocene based PP fiber outsmarts other fibers : to feature in Beijing Olympics

Outsmarting polyester and polyamide fibers on wearability, comfort and weight, a new metallocene-based polypropylene (PP) fiber will be used by Italian sportswear manufacturer to fabricate the jersey for the Italian national sailing team at the Beijing Olympics. Based on LyondellBasell's Metocene PP resin, the fiber is trademarked 'Dryarn', and is superior to other fibers due to its ability to conducts perspiration away from the skin to the outside where it evaporates thereby giving a sweat expulsion rate nearly eight times higher than polyester. This leaves the wearer dry and comfortable. With Beijing exhibiting high humidity and high temperature, the fiber will come in handy. As per the test conducted by the company, the fiber won't allow humidity to collect close to the skin, and will retain none of the microorganisms that create odor in garments made from synthetic fibers. Also, the metocene resin provides extreme lightness (specific wt of 0.9 g/m3) and narrow molecular weight distribution giving Dryarn 20% weight reduction relative to other fibers and 30% more tenacity compared to polyester and polyamide fibers.
