China has become one of the world's major producers of home appliances after development over a decade.
With an anticipated growth in domestic consumption as well as in exports of television sets, air conditioners and small appliances, China's home appliance industry will exert a greater demand on plastics.
The need for making home appliances lighter and thinner, as well as reducing the costs, is driving the use of plastics in the industry. Statistics reveal that , the percentage of plastics used has increased in different appliances :
60% in vacuum cleaners, 38% in refrigerators, 34% in washing machines, 23% in television sets, and 10% air-conditioners.
Polypropylene, as the lightest polymer that is also toxic-free, odorless and tasteless, has been increasingly demanded in China's home appliance industry since 1990 for the production of clothes washers, vacuum cleaners, electric fans and all kinds of small appliances.
