Shell Chemicals will announce the location of its much-anticipated ethane cracker in January 2012. The company set that timeline at the Developing Unconventional Gas East Conference and Exhibition in Pittsburgh, according to a Nov. 17 report in The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register.
Earlier this year, Shell announced plans to locate a multi-billion-dollar steam cracker facility in Ohio, Pennsylvania or West Virginia. The facility would take ethane extracted with natural gas from the "wet" Marcellus shale region around West Virginia's northern panhandle and crack it to produce ethylene.
