Countdown for plastics recyclers to comply with REACH begins

The European Commission has confirmed the obligation for Pre-registration by recyclers if they want to keep their business running according to the European law. Deadline is on 30th November 2008 midnight. EuPR is organizing individual support assistance to assist the recyclers in this Pre-registration phase and has prepared a detailed database with substances used in plastics articles. EuPR also informs recyclers that simultaneous access to REACH-IT by an increasing number of users can cause the system to respond very slowly during peak hours of the day. As a result, users may see time-outs and error screens from the application. ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) is analysing the situation to resolve the issue at quickly possible. EuPR keeps monitoring this issue. On 21st November 2008 EuPR will organize its Annual Meeting in Brussels to offer a last opportunity to recyclers to understand the obligation to pre-register. A conference on "Plastics Collection & Sorting in the EU" will also be held for non-members. (Press Release)
