A thunderstorm at Daesan has caused power outages at several petrochemical facilities

A thunderstorm that struck Daesan has led to power outages at several petrochemical facilities at the site. Samsung Total’s 850,000 tpa naphtha cracker, along with its downstream plants at the site, including a 120,000 tpa mono ethylene glycol (MEG) and a 650,000 tpa paraxylene (PX) unit, have been impacted by the thunderstorm. Samsung Petrochemical’s 700,000 tpa purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit and HC Petrochem’s 360,000 tpa PX unit have also borne the brunt of the thunderstorm. LG Chemical’s 760,000 tpa cracker and Honam’s 1 mln tpa Honam have not been impacted.
