Rigid foam applications drive demand growth for PU in Europe

European demand for polyurethane grew by almost 8.5% in 2004. Rigid foam and elastomeric applications drove this increased demand. Steady growth in rigid foam segment can be attributed to growth in the construction industry in Europe, particularly Eastern Europe and increased use in insulation applications. Demand for MDI, a key feedstock of PU, also recorded an increase, due to : A double digit growth (almost 10%) in demand from the refrigeration industry Increased use in insulation applications Greater production of TPUs Preference by automotive seating manufacturers for MDI
