The economic performance of the petrochemical industry improved in Q3-09. The relative strength of Asian demand for petrochemicals has provided a solid foundation for the recovery of the global petrochemical industry from the sharp downturn experienced in H2-08. The outlook for the petrochemical industry depends upon many factors beyond producer's control including the outlook for crude oil price, development of global economy, strength of the dollar, etc. Read in Will challenges in petrochemicals sector in Q3-09 be followed by a trough in 2010? |
Indian domestic petrochemicals demand slowed considerably in 2008-09 while exports were hit by the global financial crisis. India's petrochemicals industry, which is showing signs of recovery, is expected to benefit from increases in local and overseas demand. The sector will double production capacity by 2014-15. To know more about the segments that will show good growth, the growth in demand and consumption in various segments, read Petrochemicals production set to double in India by 2014-15 |
To keep up with the advancements in technology and how the rest of the world specifies windows to deliver, progress is required to be made in India in Fenestration Products. This will ensure that they can deliver higher inhabitant comfort, safety and aesthetics at affordable prices as well as restrict heat transfer/energy loss. Since the Indian Sub-Continent is designated into five distinct climatic zones, it is important to understand what windows are expected to deliver in each of the zones. Several automotive parts need to be checked for leaks. Also, as the leak rate specifications have become much tighter during the past decade, leak testing has become imperative. US State and federal standards restricting emissions of chlorofluorocarbons, exhaust and fuel vapors have forced automotive assemblers to radically tighten leak rate specifications. To know more of the various technologies for performing leak tests, read Leak testing in automotive parts need speed, accuracy and dependability |
Over the past few years, significant steps have been taken to improve the competitiveness of PVC pipes through material savings. Recently, design stress on PVC pipe has increased from 10 to 32 MPa along with the corresponding reduction in wall thicknesses and safety factors. The critical requirement for potable water and the incentive for water authorities and engineers to accept new pipe technologies has been the driving force behind the developments. A method of coating stents in polymer and then attaching drug molecules to the surface has been recently developed. However, being foreign objects, stents can cause abnormal cell growth and narrowing of artery which can be avoided by a coating of polymers. In a recent research, brain implants are coated with nanotubes made of PEDOT, a biocompatible and electrically conductive polymer that has been shown to record neural signals better than conventional metal electrodes. PEDOT nanotubes in the coating enable the electrodes to communicate more clearly with individual neurons. Read in Drug-laden polymer coats could increase biocompatibility of medical implants |
Flexible Polyurethane Foam is mainly used in automotive industry. While production, one of the problems is sticking of the product to the mould. This causes damage to the product when the final product is being taken out from the mold in RIM process, and increases costs. A new finding reveals a coating that reduces surface roughness on aluminum mould for flexible PU foam. Read in Perfluoroalkoxy coating for lowest surface roughness on aluminum mould for flexible PU foam |
In the past 2-3 decades, researchers have been able to increasingly shrink the size of devices and the size of the patterns to make electronic data storage devices. A striking development in the field of polymer self-assembly could possibly spell wonders for electronic data storage and microelectronics industry. Structures can be used to make templates with nanoscale elements, which may be useful for manufacturing higher capacity hard disk drives. Read in New method to self-assemble block copolymers will pave way for ultra-high density memory devices |
A new line of polymers offers several advantages over standard styrene butadiene emulsions, including improved wet and dry tensile properties, filler acceptance, color fastness, caustic resistance, and adhesion to both synthetic and natural fibers. They are ideal for various short and long-life nonwovens applications including towels, wipes and filtration media, as well as a variety of other specialty uses.
