Plastotecnica, one of Italy's leading manufacturers of flexible polyethylene packaging, has celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of growth, innovation, and customer-focused manufacturing. The milestone was commemorated with a special event at Villa Selvatico, Battaglia Terme, attended by customers, suppliers, employees, and representatives from local institutions.

The celebration featured speeches by Luca Iazzolino, CEO of Plastotecnica; Paola Carron, President of Confindustria Veneto Est; and Elisa Venturini, Regional Councilor for the Environment of the Veneto Region. Leopoldo Destro, Vice President of Confindustria, also attended the event.

Strong Financial Performance

Plastotecnica manufactures high-quality, recyclable flexible polyethylene packaging at its production facilities in Pernumia and Bagnoli di Sopra, while also operating through its subsidiary ReFilm, a joint venture in Occhiobello (Rovigo) in which the company holds a 51% stake.

The company employs 334 people, including approximately 30 temporary workers who receive the same benefits as permanent employees.

Key financial highlights include:
2025 Revenue: €155 million

First Half of 2026:
5% increase in production volumes
15% increase in revenue compared to H1 2025
Exports account for 32% of total sales
Expected 2026 Revenue: Approximately €200 million, with significantly improved profit margins.

A Journey from Garage Startup to Industry Leader
Plastotecnica was founded in 1976 by Lorenza Dal Prà and Mario Iazzolino, who began producing plastic bags for local retailers from a garage in Padua under the name Plastotecnica di Dal Prà Lorenza.

As the business expanded, operations moved into larger facilities before relocating to a new production plant in Pernumia in 1981.

A major turning point came in 1984, when the company shifted its focus from retail shopping bags to industrial packaging, supplying leading mineral water producers. This strategic move laid the foundation for Plastotecnica's rapid expansion and leadership in Italy's flexible packaging market.

Continued Expansion and Circular Economy Investments
To support growing demand, Plastotecnica opened its Bagnoli di Sopra manufacturing facility in 1992, which later became the company's headquarters in 2000.

In 2024, the company established ReFilm, a joint venture dedicated to producing certified post-consumer recycled plastic from used packaging. The recycled material is used in manufacturing high-quality sustainable packaging solutions, supporting Plastotecnica's commitment to circular economy principles.

CEO Highlights Quality, Sustainability and Internal Talent

Speaking at the anniversary celebration, CEO Luca Iazzolino reflected on the company's journey and future direction.

He credited the vision of the founders, the dedication of employees, the loyalty of customers, and the support of suppliers and financial institutions for Plastotecnica's success over the past five decades.

To remain competitive against low-cost international manufacturers, the company has focused on premium-quality products, customized packaging solutions, and close collaboration with customers through research and development.

Iazzolino also emphasized Plastotecnica's commitment to sustainability by reducing packaging weight, increasing the use of post-consumer recycled materials, and investing in circular economy initiatives such as ReFilm.

He noted that the company has successfully rejuvenated its management team—whose average age is around 40—through internal talent development rather than external recruitment.

Industry Recognition
Paola Carron, President of Confindustria Veneto Est, praised Plastotecnica as an example of Italian industrial excellence, highlighting its continuous investment in innovation, research, people, and the circular economy despite challenging global market conditions.

Elisa Venturini, Regional Councilor for the Environment of the Veneto Region, recognized Plastotecnica's contribution to sustainable manufacturing, noting that initiatives such as ReFilm demonstrate how responsible resource management can strengthen both environmental protection and industrial competitiveness.

For more than five decades, Plastotecnica has built its reputation on three core principles:
Sustainability
Technological Innovation
People-Centric Growth
