Ethylene pipe at Dow Chemical's Port Arthur facility explodes

20-Oct-07
An ethylene pipeline belonging to Dow Chemical, at its plant in Port Arthur, Texas, has ruptured and exploded. Currently, the pipe has been blocked by the fire crew as they await the fire to burn out. A nearby crude butadiene pipeline belonging to Texas Petrochemicals has also been found to be leaking. Initial investigations have ruled out terrorism and vandalism. Investigators will be working to figure out the cause of the blast, for which all pollutant levels were negligible from the blast. None of the area refineries or other industrial installations had been evacuated. Residents downwind of the fire were asked to stay in their homes as a precaution.
