Japan Polyethylene’s PE plants at Kashima and Kawasaki remain shut

Japan Polyethylene’s polyethylene (PE) plants at Kashima and Kawasaki remain shut in the wake of the 11 March earthquake. The affected facilities comprise a 60,000 tpa low density PE (LDPE) plant and 260,000 tpa linear LDPE (LLDPE) unit at Kashima; a 90,000 tpa LDPE plant, a 60,000 tpa LLDPE unit and two high density PE (HDPE) plants with a combined capacity of 170,000 tpa at Kawasaki. Date of restart of the plants is unclear, as damage is being assessed. Japan Polyethylene’s PE plants running normally, are 120,000 tpa LDPE plant and 200,000 tpa HDPE plant at Oita, 65,000 tpa LDPE plant, a 100,000 tpa HDPE plant, and a 50,000 LLDPE plant at Mizushima.
