Vimal Plastics has been a leading producer of extrusion blow molded (EBM) containers for the cosmetic and personal care industry for over two decades. Vimal applies the processing and performance characteristics of Eastman Drystar 0603* copolyester (PETG) to continue to meet customer needs. Before Vimal discovered the flexibility available with extrusion blow molded Drystar, the only options were injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) PET or EBM using HDPE. Both fell short of customer needs because the mold costs for ISBM were very high and HDPE offerings were primarily limited to opaque. Drystar 0603 helps Vimal overcome both of these shortcomings-with design and processing flexibility, outstanding clarity and a glasslike finish for its cosmetic product line. Today, Vimal uses Drystar in transparent and tinted EBM bottles from 50 to 200mL-especially for the high-end products of regional and multi-national brands including Shahnaz Ayurvedics, Jiva Ayurveda, Lotus Herbals and Torrent Pharmaceuticals.
For these customers, it is critical to differentiate their brands in the marketplace. This is where Vimal's concept-to-commercial approach brings value to its EBM customers. Using Drystar 0603, Vimal can custom design and extrusion blow mold a run of as few as 5,000 units. That simply doesn't justify the investment in a new ISBM mold.
Eastman copolyesters are highly valued for their excellent balance of properties such as aesthetics, impact strength and chemical resistance. These properties can be optimally realized when the resins are properly dried. Recognizing this value, Eastman developed Drystar copolyesters to allow molders and converters with limited access to desiccant dryers to achieve these optimizations. In addition, producers like Vimal-with full desiccant drying capability-find that Drystar can provide additional value by helping attain production flexibility and cost savings.
