Maag's new PEARLO Underwater Pelletizing System has been launched at K 2016. The PEARLOFLEX System has been specially designed to manufacture spherical pellets of compounds, masterbatches, blends and recyclates. It is compatible with a wide range of polymers and thermoplastics, including, but not limited to, polyolefins (LDPE, HDPE, PP), styrene polymers (PS, SAN, ABS), polyacetals (POM), Polyesters (PET, PBT, PEN), Polycarbonates (PC), Polyurethanes (TPU), hot-melt adhesives, rubber, and natural and synthetic resins, and can reach production rates of up to 500 kg (1,100 lbs.) an hour.
“The new PEARLOFLEX System is a perfect example of what can be developed and achieved as a result of the new Maag, which combines the pelletizing expertise of Maag Automatik, Gala and RE Scheer with the pump and filtration systems expertise of Maag,” said Ueli Thuerig, President of Maag. “At K Show, we will demonstrate how our new organization is building better solutions together — leveraging our brightest and most experienced people combined with best practices across our entire enterprise to the benefit of our customers.” The unique flexibility of the PEARLOFLEX System sets it apart from competitive models throughout the total integration of all components on one frame and in view of uptime, efficiency and low waste generation. The plastic melt is transferred to the die plate via the hydraulic startup valve. From the die plate, the heated melt is extruded through holes oriented in a ring shape into the cutting chamber, which is flooded with process water. The cutter head then cuts the polymer into pellets, which are sent to the dryer via the process water. In the dryer, the pellets are separated from the process water and moved on for further processing, while the process water is filtered, tempered and returned to the cutting chamber.
The operational benefits of the PEARLOFLEX System include automated startup and shutdown, along with a compact, single base frame for all components modular design that includes a lift and remove dryer housing. It also offers a turbine-style cutter hub and blade design with a single-sided long blade, including automated or manual blade-advance capabilities and a narrow face die plate design. The PEARLOFLEX System is generally top-mounted for the diverter valve, the die plate, water box and pelletiser. The PEARLOFLEX can easy be upgraded with additional top mounted and hinged modules for the melt pump and the melt filtration at anytime. It offers long-life wear parts, various integrated water-filter options, and most importantly the entire system is designed to be easy to clean and safe in operation.
