To meet the
increased global demand of newer technology oriented
ophthalmic products, a novel aliphatic based polyurethane
elastomer has been developed. The novel cast polyurethane
elastomer technology enables production of highly
transparent parts with unique property profiles.
These elastomers, which can range from extremely
hard to very soft and flexible, have high impact
strength, high abrasion/scratch resistance and
superior light stability. They also have excellent
optical properties and weigh less than comparable
parts made of competitive materials. The new material
from Bayer offers excellent processing characteristics
such as low viscosity components at room temperature,
a 1.8 to 1.0 mix ratio, and fast demold. A few
of the potential applications for these materials
include ophthalmic prescriptions lenses, LED optics,
flexible visors, and ballistic-resistant panels.
This versatile, optically clear polyurethane can be used to produce parts that have very low haze and distortion, superior light transmission, excellent craze resistance, and high impact strength. |
