Despite allegations of dumping from countries such as China, Turkey and Pakistan, a 6.6% increase in Saudi Arabia's petrochemical exports to Asia has been recorded in H1-2011 as compared to H1-2010. Saudi Arabia's total petrochemical exports increased to 14.98 mln tons from 14.06 mln tons during the period, due to the huge demand from Asian countries as well as the increase in production in Saudi Arabia. There has been an increase of 83% in exports of petrochemicals in the past eighteen months, mounting to 5.23 mln tons from 2.86 mln tons.
Petrochemicals comprise 37% of the SA's non-petroleum exports in June, worth 14.1 bln riyals, followed by the plastic products at 28%.
