The work on the US$5 bln Borouge-2 project in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi is on schedule. With the completion of this project in 2010, petrochemicals production capacity of Borouge will see a threefold jump to 2 mln tpa. Currently, construction work at Borouge-2 is about 25% complete: a little ahead of schedule. The new complex will comprise the largest ethylene grass-roots cracker in the world, two Borstar polypropylene plants with capacity of 800,000 tpa, a Borstar enhanced polyethylene plant with an annual capacity of 540,000 tons, an olefins conversion unit with total output of 752,000 tons of propylene plus utilities and off sites to support the expanded production. Borouge plans to export majority of its output primarily to the Middle East, China and India.
