Dow Polyurethanes plans capacity expansion of its Dutch polyols plant

18-Sep-07
In a move towards its' commitment to strengthen its position in Europe, with a focus on driving the growth of its Performance businesses throughout the region; Dow Polyurethanes, a business group of The Dow Chemical Company, plans to go ahead with the detailed engineering phase for capacity expansion at its polyols plant in Terneuzen, The Netherlands. Jacobs Engineering, a design contract firm based in The Netherlands has been selected to handle the engineering needs of the project. Work is expected to commence in early 2008, with completion shortly thereafter. Earlier this year, in March, Dow had completed a feasibility study to increase polyols production at the facility by 180,000 tpa. The need for expansion has been driven by demand for Dow polyols in downstream markets and strong customer interest in specialty polyols and polyurethanes systems product. Feedstock for the plant will be supplied by the 300,000 tpa joint Dow and BASF hydrogen peroxide to propylene oxide (HPPO) facility currently under construction in Antwerp, Belgium.
