ExxonMobil awards Mitsubishi contract for PE plant in Singapore

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. for two large-scale polyethylene (PE) units planned in Singapore. The two plants have a combined production capacity of 1,300,000 tpa. Finishing, packaging, and shipping facilities for both PE units and a new polypropylene (PP) line are also included in the contract. MHI will be responsible for detailed plant design, supply and procurement of equipment, and on-site construction work. This contract is part of ExxonMobil Chemical's second petrochemical complex which will be located at and integrated with its existing chemical plant on Jurong Island in Singapore. The PE plant will consist of two 650,000 tpa production facilities. MHI has already delivered 12 PE plants to the industry. Recent orders include plants for Jilin Chemical in China in 1994 (completed in 1997), JG Summit in the Philippines in 1995 (completed in 1998), YANPET in Saudi Arabia in 1997 (completed in 2000) and Petroquimica Morelos in Mexico in 2003 (completed in 2007).
