Finland's global plastic pipes maker, Uponor have closed down its Canadian manufacturing facility in Saint John, New Brunswick. The slump in North America's building and construction industry coupled with slowing US economy had led to the close down of its Canadian facility. The closing is part of the initiative to reduce costs and align expenses and is consistent with the EUR 30 mln structural cost reductions for 2009 announced in August.
The planned actions are likely to affect more than 200 employees corporate-wide. Despite the difficult economic environment, Uponor is also taking advantage of opportunities and actively focusing on its strategic growth initiatives in North America, such as new product development, investments in the Apple Valley manufacturing facility, and new distribution centre.
