Newly appointed chairman Chen Bao-lang of Formosa Petrochemical Corp. (FPC) held a series of meetings with senior executives on improving the administrative system and plants of Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) in Yunlin County, as per a report published on The China Post. The former FPC chairman stepped down followed by the drastic drops in the firm’s revenues caused by the number of fires at the complex which spoiled the image of Formosa Plastics Group.
Chen stressed that the top priority for the company is to reduce industrial incidents, ensure smooth running of the facilities, and alleviate the concerns from Yunlin residents and the public after the industrial complex was hit by a series of fires. He has listed four major tasks to achieve the goal, including thoroughly reviewing the administrative and management system at the company, heightening company-wide awareness about industrial safety, studying necessary modifications of the manufacturing equipment, and beefing up the staff's capability of coping with industrial safety and environmental protection problems.
Operations at the petrochemical complex will remain shut down until the safety measures are examined and approved by an independent appraisal panel formed by industry experts, scholars, and government officials.
