Lummus awarded the contract to build world’s largest propylene plant at Tianjin

11-Aug-10
Lummus has been awarded a contract by Tianjin Bohua Petrochemical to build a new propylene plant at Tianjin. The propane dehydrogenation plant will have a capacity of 600,000 tpa, and will have the distinction of being China’s first. It will also be the largest in the world when it begins operations sometime in 2012. The plant will use Lummus’ Catofin dehydrogenation process. This continuous process uses fixed bed reactors with a catalyst and can achieve onstream efficiencies of 98%. The cyclic reactor sequence is entirely computer controlled. The process can also be used to produce isobutylene, and six such plants are currently in operation around the world. Several propane dehydrogenation plants are currently under construction
