13-Sep-08
American aircraft manufacturer, Airbus has expressed interest to buy six VIPER® fibre placement systems (FPS) from MAG Cincinnati to automate its composite fuselage panel fabrication for the composite airframe of the new Airbus A350 XWB passenger aircraft. The machines will produce more than 90% of the fuselage for the A350 XWB. By weight, the new A350 XWB aircraft is made of composites. MAG Cincinnati's VIPER 6000 series can make fuselage panels up to 20.7 ft in diameter. The systems will be used for part and process development before transitioning to production. Airbus manufacturing facilities in France, Germany and Spain will have these machines installed.
