PET prices continue to be linked to input costs in Europe

04-Feb-10
PET prices in Europe have increased in January 2010 in line with rising input costs. As per Plastics Information Europe, feedstock MEG prices increased by €125/ton to levels of €785/ton as supply gets increasingly stringent. Interestingly, spot market notations of the more important feedstock paraxylene have eased in January. Some players expect the upward trend to continue, while others fear another recessive slump (expressed in a W-shape economic scenario). In the long run, notations will continue to move in tandem with feedstock costs.
