Samsung Total's 'Global Project' to achieve 1 trillion KRW in sales profit is successfully underway. 'Global Project' is a new development strategy that rearranged the complex operations in the past 2 years with 55 mln in investment to secure the company's competence in efficiency and scale. Another reason is the preparation for the worst global economic expectations at the end of this year on account of influx of material from newly expanded production capacities in Middle East and China. Besides increased annual productivity for major products, following expansions have been successfully carried out: Large scale expansions of naphtha decomposition plant and styrene monomer/polypropylene(SM/PP) plant. Ethylene from 630,000 tons to 850,000 tons Propylene from 320,000 tons to 550,000 tons Styrene monomer (SM) from 670,000 tons to 870,000 tons Polypropylene from 270,000 tons to 580,000 tons For the first time in the world, Samsung has used wasted heat instead of using steam at its SM plant expansion. This system, the 'Multi-Effect System' has brought almost KRW 7 million in additional energy efficiency annually.
