Showa Denko K.K resumes ethylene plant operation at Oita

13-Jun-12
Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) today resumed the normal operation of its ethylene plant at the Oita Complex following completion of a repair work on the cooling unit which developed trouble on March 18. Feeding of naphtha to the ethylene plant was restarted on June 9. The two-line ethylene plant has total production capacity of approximately 695,000 tpa (in years without shutdown maintenance). SDK stopped the 200,000 tpa line on March 7 to conduct periodic maintenance of cracking furnaces for completion by March 29. The company also stopped the 495,000 tpa line on March 15 to conduct cleaning of cracking furnaces for completion by March 21. The ethylene plant was originally scheduled to start operation on March 30, but the start-up was delayed due to the need of the repair of the equipment.
