Slim margins to case PCS curtail Jurong Island naphtha capacity

Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore (PCS), a 50:50 JV between Japan-Singapore Petrochemicals Company Limited (JSPC) and Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd is reportedly seeking to curtail naphtha production at its 1.06 mln tpa facility at Jurong Island further by 5 % from Oct 1, 2008. PCS operates two naphtha crackers at Jurong island facility, of which the larger of the two has a production capacity of 615,000 tpa. The facility is already running at 80% output since March which will further shrink by 5% effective from Oct 1, 2008 owing to consistent slim margins.
