Solvay's Thai affiliate augments PVC capacity, plans further increase

15-Sep-08
Vinythai, a Thai affiliate of Solvay, has augmented its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production capacity by 70,000 tpa at its Map Ta Phut-based plant in Thailand. The PVC production at this plant now totals to 280,000 tpa. Vinythai invested EUR 17 mln in the PVC capacity increase, which is now fully operational. Vinythai is currently the second largest chlor-alkali and vinyls producer in South East Asia. In addition, Vinythai plans to lift the annual PVC production capacity stepwise to a total of 400,000 tpa, with an aim to balance the vinyls value chain on-site, thereby consolidating it as a world class producer with a strong competitive position. Recently, Vinythai increased its production capacity in Chlor-Alkali and of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM).
