Unionised workers at South Korea's top ethylene maker to go on strike?

21-Sep-07
South Korea's top ethylene producer - Yeochun Naphtha Cracking Centre (YNCC) may see a disruption of operations. YNCC, has a total capacity of about 1.8 mln tpa and is a 50:50 joint venture between Daelim Industrial Corp and Hanwha Chemical Corp. Unionised workers at YNCC plan to go on a strike for higher pay. Almost 66% of the unionised workers at YNCC had voted in favour of a strike. A similar incident last year, when workers went on a two-week strike demanding a raise, cut YNCC's operation to 70% of capacity. Earlier in 2001, YNCC experienced a 37-day strike over similar issues.
