Use of YNCC’s largest ethylene storage tank in Yeosu scheduled to restart

01-Jul-10
A leakage in the largest tank at South Korea's Yeochun Naphtha Cracking Center (YNCC) in May, led to a shutdown. Contents of the 10,000 ton capacity ethylene tank were emptied and transferred to three other tanks with a capacity of 5,000 tpa at the same site. YNCC plans to restart using its largest ethylene storage tank in Yeosu by late July/early August, as per Platts. Despite its biggest storage tank being out of business and full rates at its crackers, the company did not need to sell ethylene in the spot market due to firm demand in South Korea, while any excess ethylene is currently tied up in contracts with a Japanese trading house.
