Bayer MaterialScience LLC has introduced several new eco-friendly high-quality grades of its Makroblend® and Bayblend® polycarbonate blend resins in response to increased demand for sustainable products. The new offerings include three new flame-retardant Bayblend polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC/ABS) blend resin post-consumer recycled content grades. Bayblend FR610 GR contains minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled content and at least 30% post-industrial recycled content for a total of at least 40% recycled content. Bayblend FR630 GR contains 30% post-consumer recycled content and a total recycled content of at least 55%. Bayblend FR632 GR is a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content and 55% total recycled content. These new Bayblend grades maintain the properties of a typical flame-rated PC/ABS product, including good rigidity, hardness, dimensional stability, impact strength and creep resistance.
The Bayblend recycled content grade products are ideal for use in housing and other electrical and lighting components, such as electrical, switch and meter housings, security and surveillance equipment, and battery housings. In addition, Bayer MaterialScience is also introducing two new bio-content polycarbonate blends -- Makroblend BC250 and Makroblend BC400 -- containing 25% and 40% polylactide (PLA) respectively. The bio-content grades can be used in wide-ranging applications such as cell phones and smart phones, portable electronics, housings and enclosures, furniture, sporting goods, toys and automotive interiors.
